Treasures From The Forest

Caleb and I had the opportunity to visit the Pennsylvania Wilds a few weeks ago, and it was breathtaking. The mountains surrounded us, the birds sang their springtime songs, and the creeks babbled as we walked along side. It was a taste of heaven on earth.

While there, I read this quote which I would like to share with you:

"In each new day, wherever you may be, there is always waiting for you some beautiful discovery. The more you go in search, the more you find that everyday will have at least one moment where the beauty is simply and abundantly clear... Then you'll find that each day is stitched of such moments. You'll begin to gather these beautiful things and stitch them together yourself, finding life itself a patchwork quilt of beauty..." - Katie Daisy, How to Be a Wild Flower

Nature is so incredible and it gets me every. single. time. The grandeur of the mountains, the music of spring peepers and blackbirds, the color and variety of plants are all astounding. I am amazed by the creativity and intricacy of creation.

And yet, as I thought about the quote above, I realized that beauty is truly all around us. Not just in mountains and nature, but also in holding the hand of a loved one. In tasting the first bite of a favorite food. In a deep conversation with a close friend. In waking up with sunshine streaming through the window, or falling asleep to the sound of rain. In the first snowflake of the season, or in the smile of a stranger.

Often I am drawn to the miraculous and outstanding. And yet, as Laura Ingalls Wilder said, "It is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all." So, I've made it my mission to be thankful for the everyday goodness bestowed to me. To view each day as a gift and open my eyes to the both the spectacular and simple joys within.

Thanks for reading,

Abby

P.S. If anyone knows about mushrooms, I would be very interested to learn what varieties are in the photos in this post. I am fascinated and would love to learn more about them!
