Top 5 Reads of 2020

Magic happens when I open a book. The draw to open the pages and lose myself in a world of wonder pulls me in. And quite honestly, I don't resist.

If you are looking for books that offer advice and inspiration on gardening, plants, recipes, and/or homemaking, this list is for you!

1. Seasons on the Farm - by Shaye Elliott

This is one of my all-time favorite books! Shaye focuses on a seasonal approach to life. She includes recipes, decorating tips, gardening advice, and much more. The book is broken down into 4 seasons - Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. You'll discover beautiful photos and fun ideas throughout each section. If you're looking for inspiration in daily life, this book is for you! I recommend taking your time to page through and savoring the inspiration with cup of tea and a cozy blanket.

2. Harvest - by Stefani Bittner and Alethea Harampolis

This gem offers 47 seasonal projects for the home gardener. Harvest is filled with incredibly creative uses for common plants. It is such a fun read. The book is divided into 3 parts - Early, Mid, and Late; making it is a great resource for every season. I appreciated that the projects included were not too overwhelming or difficult. My personal favorites were the recipes for Elderflower-Infused Honey and Homemade Blueberry Dye. Amidst stunning photos, you will find interesting ideas for understanding and using plants year-round. I would highly recommend reading this book if you love DIY projects or gardening.

3. Floret Farm's Cut Flower Garden

If you're interested in growing cutting flowers, or just wanting to know more about flowers in general, you must read this one. There are enchanting images of beautiful flowers scattered through the pages. In addition, you'll find advice on planting, growing, harvesting, and arranging flowers. It's perfect for aspiring florists and home gardeners alike. Check it out!

4. Attainable Sustainable - The Lost Art of Self-reliant Living

Kris Bordessa works with National Geographic to bring a book packed full of homestead projects. Anything from making soap, to foraging, to farm animals. This resource boasts a wide range of topics. It is filled with helpful photos and step-by-step instructions for DIY projects. Although it has over 100 ideas for you to try, it doesn't go into great depth on many of the topics. However, it is the perfect option for getting you excited to learn more on a variety of subjects. If you enjoy working with your hands or are interested in sustainability this book is a good fit.

5. One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp

This book is a little different than the others, but a great read none the less. Ann has a beautiful way of bringing her ideas together in a gentle yet, profound way. She encourages us to find thankfulness and joy even through painful parts of life. I love that Ann lives on a farm and also incorporates that into her writing. I enjoyed gaining Ann's perspective on faith, family, and thankfulness. This chapter book is great for those wanting to dive into the concept of choosing joy every day.
