Thanksgiving Family Favorites

Today I am off to the mountains with my husband's family to celebrate Thanksgiving. But before I leave, I wanted to share a few favorite family recipes that we have for Thanksgiving.

This is my great grandmother, Mable. She was born in 1924 and spent her much of her childhood picking strawberries in Florida during The Great Depression. My great grandma Mable was one of the sweetest and gentlest people on the face of the earth. Below is her recipe for cranberry sauce written in her own hand.

I was lucky enough to know two of my great grandmothers. Below is a photo of my great grandma Annie. She grew up on a farm in Pheasant Valley and overcame many hardships. She was spunky and always up for some mischief (even in her 80's). Every year she hosted family Thanksgiving and would make her delicious sweet potato casserole. Below is her handwritten recipe.

Next up is my grandma Anne. I've been fortunate enough to grow up only a few miles away from my grandma. At one point my family even lived with her. I've learned so very much about life from her. And I'm thankful for all the wisdom she's poured into me over the years.

One of the best cooking tips she ever gave me was "real cooks don't measure." Unlike at her house, you'll still find measuring spoons in my home; but I will say there's something to be said for developing the skill of knowing what flavors go together and how much to use.

Below you'll find my grandma's recipe for Asparagus Venetian which is on her table at every major holiday.

Finally, we have my Aunt Esther. She is so much more than an aunt; she's also a wonderful friend and always offers a listing ear when I'm having troubles. Her Seven Layer Salad is legendary in our family!

I hope you've enjoyed seeing some of our family favorite recipes. Leave me a comment and let me know what some of your family favorite recipes are during the holiday season!

Thanks for reading,

Abby
