Making Time for Creativity
I have been thinking a lot about creativity. It's fascinating how there are so many types of creativity. Sadly, many of us don't make time to create and use our imagination. We get caught up in the daily grind. We miss the beauty and inspiration around us. I know I am guilty of this. The good news is, it doesn't have to be like that.
I often hear from people "I'm not creative." I honestly don't believe that for a moment. You most definitely are creative! It might just take a different form than what you're thinking. For instance, you might be an amazing singer, or maybe you work well with numbers. Perhaps you have a knack for directing a conversation and making someone feel heard. Maybe you are a dancer, a teacher, or an excellent cook. This all counts as creativity.
Although you may not have the natural ability that someone else has, that does not mean you can't be creative. I often find myself comparing my work to others. When I am in that situation, I need to check myself. I need to realize that different is good and beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. The flip side to this, is the fact that practice makes perfect. I may have an aptitude towards photography, but if I never make time for it, I'm not going to improve.
So, why is creativity important? Well for starters, there have been several studies that state creativity is very important and helps to improve brain function. But I think even more importantly, is the fact that no one else has the same type of creativity that you do. You are the only one with your unique set of talents and abilities. You have an opportunity to touch people in a way that no one else can.
My challenge, to both myself and to you, is to use creativity to help others experience beauty and joy. I hope that my creativity reflects the good gifts that God has given to us all. When we neglect or hide our God given talent, we are not able to serve or use our gifts for the good of others. I think we also miss out on the personal benefit of joy and sense of accomplishment that creativity provides.
Have you ever met someone who has no joy in life? The person who can only talk about their life and all of their troubles. That can be the pit fall when we choose to view life as a grind with no time for fun or creativity. Of course, there are seasons of difficulty where you may not be able to create. But as a whole, I deeply feel that it is important to embrace our talents and make time to use them.
Let me encourage you, to be creative; whatever that looks like for you. And be sure to make it a priority.
I hope this post inspires you to dive into the things you love. To embrace the gifts you have and to use them for good.

Abby
