21 Things to Add to Your Fall Bucket List

Autunm is one of my favorite seasons! Today I'm sharing some of the items on my fall "to-do list." I hope you'll be inspired to make the most of the upcoming season.

1. Collect Treasures from Nature -

Take a walk and collect acorns, pinecones, colored leaves, and any other treasures you may find. Display them of your table or windowsills when you get back home.

2. Go to a local festival or fair -

There are lots of outdoor festivals and fairs this time of year. One of my local favorites is "Steam-O-Rama" which is an old-fashioned type of gathering that boasts everything from tractors and steam engines to fair foods and live bluegrass.

3. Bake Homemade Cinnamon Buns -

There's nothing better than a warm cinnamon bun with a tall glass of milk.

4. Swap Out Your Wardrobe -

Put away the bathing suits and tank tops and bring out the sweaters, boots, and jeans. Retire the bright blues, pinks, and purples of summer and turn to wearing more muted colors of oranges, greens, browns, and reds.

5. Burn Candles or Make a Simmer Pot -

Incorporate warming scents like cinnamon, vanilla, or orange into your home.

6. Take a Bike Ride -

Find a rail trail and ride through the cool breeze and changing leaves.

7. Hit up a thrift store -

Look for a new sweater or scarf that you can add to your fall look.

8. Add Seasonal Foods to Your Menu -

Now's the time to add pumpkin, squash, thyme, sage, apples, and cranberries to your meals.

9. Make Cozy Spaces -

Add extra pillows and blankets to your couches and beds. Bring out the stack of books waiting to be read. Leave matches and a candle nearby.

10. Eat a Caramel or Candy Apple -

I have fond memories of being a kid all bundled up in an oversized sweatshirt eating a big candy apple that my grandma got for me.

11. Dry Leaves and Flowers -

Enjoy the last of the summer blooms. Bring them inside to hang upside-down or dry and press individual flowers/petals between thick books.

12. Stargaze -

Pile up the blankets and head outside to look at the sky.

13. Explore a New Hiking Trail -

I think fall is the most wonderful time of year for a hike. Bonus points if you can get to a mountain trail.

14. Decorate your porch -

Add a straw bale, corn shock, mums, pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn... Whatever you like!

15. Have a Campfire -

My mother-in-law hosts a bonfire every year in October. It's loads of fun sitting around the fire swapping stories and toasting marshmallows. She even goes as far as having a trivia time where we can answer questions from years gone by. This makes for fun conversations and memories.

16. Bake a Pie -

Hot flaky pie crust anyone?

17. Plan a Weekend Picnic -

Enjoy the last of the sunshine and head outside for lunch and dinner!

18. Paint or Carve Pumpkins -

Everyone in the family gets to be creative with this activity. Plus, you get the added bonus of being able to roast and enjoy the pumpkin seeds!

19. Start a New Book Series -

Autunm is a great time to read. The cool temps and early evenings provide the perfect atmosphere to curl up and cozy in with a good book.

20. Drink Hot Apple Cider -

If autumn could be blended up and served in a cup, this would be it. I love to eat gingersnaps with my apple cider.

21. Host (or attend) a Harvest Party -

I think it would be lovely to host a party where guests would bring something they grew or preserved during the last season. But you really could go any direction with a harvest party. Caleb's aunt hosts an annual square dance at her farm. My grandmother used to host a costume party complete with a "haunted barn." Whatever direction you go, be sure to enjoy celebrating this beautiful season.

I hope you found some inspiration today and are ready to welcome the fall season. Leave me a comment with what's on your fall bucket list this year.

Thanks for reading,

Abby
