15 Ways To Celebrate Spring

Spring is such an exciting time, yet sometimes it can become a little... blah. Gray rainy days, cool temperatures, and ALL. THE. MUD. It's easy to miss the new life popping up all around us. So today I am sharing 15 ways to help us develop a thankful heart and celebrate the spring season.

1. Plant Something -

Whether it's a house plant or a whole garden, get your hands into the soil! There's nothing like feeling the cool spring earth between your fingers. And, as an added bonus, science suggests there are beneficial microbes in soil that help us fight off depression and anxiety. How cool is that!?!

2. Find a Pond -

Ponds are full of life this time of year. Pull on your sweater and grab your boots. It's time for a nature hunt. Look for geese nesting atop cream-colored eggs. Scan for minnows, ducklings, and tadpoles amidst lily pads and bulrushes. You could even take a notebook to write about your discoveries or press leaves and flower petals.

3. Make Plans for Summer -

Have fun dreaming up a vacation, or a themed party you want to host. Enjoy the anticipation accompanying your plans.

4. Hang Laundry on the Line -

Nothing shouts spring more than freshly washed clothes drying in the cool breeze. Plus, your clothes will smell like heaven!

5. Decorate for Spring -

Change out bedspreads and curtains to lighter and brighter fabrics. Add fresh flowers to the table. Diffuse spring scented oils or burn floral scented candles. Listen to Celtic or Classical music. Do whatever sets the springtime tone for your home.

6. Clean -

It may sound cliché, but there is definitely something to be said for spring cleaning. I love the fresh, new feeling left in its wake. While you're decorating for spring, use the opportunity to dust top shelves, wash windows, and vacuum behind furniture.

7. Visit a Farmer's Market -

Farmer's markets fill up with the first gifts of produce that springtime offers. Peas, spring onions, radishes, carrots, and greens, will be among the treasures you discover.

8. Open the Windows -

It may be a bit cold, but get those windows open! Even if it's only for a few minutes. The fresh air will help flush out the staleness of winter and breathe life into your home.

9. Read Books That Give You Springtime Feelings -

Although the books below are written with children in mind, I find a lot of inspiration in the illustrations. The intricate drawings inspire me with their colors and textures. Other great springtime reads could include: seasonal magazines, wildflower field guides, or something like Anne of Green Gables.

10. Celebrate Spring Holidays -

Easter, St. Patrick's Day, May Day, and Mother's Day are all fun holidays to celebrate. Paint Easter eggs, send Mom a card, or leave flowers on your neighbor's door and enjoy moments creating special memories.

11. Have a Picnic -

If it's too cold for an outdoor picnic - improvise! Throw a blanket on the living room floor and enjoy a meal outside of the normal routine.

12. Mow the Lawn -

Nothing makes you dream of warmer days like the smell of freshly cut grass!

13. Find Some Baby Animals to Love -

Chicks, lambs, puppies, kids, kittens, and bunnies are typically easy to find each spring. If you don't have your own furry friends, ask a neighbor or pet shop if you can enjoy some snuggles.

14. Break Out the Spring Wardrobe -

You can't go wrong with light fabrics, floral prints, or pastels at this time of year.

15. Jump in a Puddle -

It sounds silly, but pull on those yellow rubber boots, grab your umbrella, and spend some time in the rain. Take in the sounds of water gurgling, birds chirping, and wind blowing. Feel the cold raindrops hitting your hand. Let your heart fill with gratitude for life.

I hope you enjoyed these springtime ideas. Let me know how you're planning to celebrate spring in the comments.
